Abstract

It is well kwown that interval velocities (Vi) deduced from surface seismic data are generally greater than the vertical velocities (Vv) obtained from well data. This generally leads to overestimate the depths of the reflector by an amount of 5 to 10%. The relative difference between the two velocities: (Vi-Vv)/Vv, sometimes called "anisotropy" is here named "correction factor" in order to avoid confusion with true transverse isotropic medium (TIM).
