Abstract

Summary

We demonstrate a method for calculating MLSRTM images from data recorded on irregular topography. Modeling seismic waves with rough topography can induce artificial diffractions at the surface, which will introduce erroneous reflectors in the migration image. To avoid such problems, we use a fully staggered grid finite-difference method on body-fitted grids. And then, we extend the modelling operator to LSRTM. With phase encoding method, we can get the inversion result of reflectivity at the cost of RTM but with more balanced amplitude and higher resolution. Our results with two models with steep topography suggest its effectiveness in avoiding artificial reflections generated by forward modeling of wavefields on surfaces with rough topography.
