Abstract

Summary

We present results from a case study being performed in the HS area of Tarim basin that utilizes two orthogonal Wide Azimuth (WAZ) surveys to create an improved image of the subsurface. We demonstrate that orthogonal WAZ acquisition – acquiring a second WAZ dataset over existing WAZ data – provides an efficient way to obtain near Full Azimuth (FAZ) coverage at relatively low cost. By using offset vector tile (OVT) technology, we also demonstrate that orthogonal WAZ data provides considerable uplift in the imaging of target carbonate reservoir and facilitates the application of the multi azimuthal tomography inversion to build velocity model with higher accuracy.
