Abstract
Here we recast the pure P-wave equation derived from the exact dispersion relation into a new system of second-order equations. The new equation is not solved easily by the time domain explicit finite difference method, and we perform the simulations of P-wave propagation in transversely isotropic media with arbitrary titled axis (TTI media) using the finite-difference, frequency-domain (FDFD) method. For the stability, we modified the equations by combining the equations presented by Duveneck et al (2008) . The numerical results show the new equations are robust and there are no S-waves excited at the source or converted at the interfaces. This new pure P-wave equation can potentially be used for both frequency-domain reverse time migration and anisotropic full-waveform inversion.
