Abstract

Summary

The shallow gas cloud’s presence will bring severe travel time distortion and energy absorption to seismic data. For compensating the amplitude and frequency attenuation, Q tomography is the proposed approach. And Bohai Bay is known as its large gas cloud size and complex faults system. It has been a difficulty to recover the energy and image below gas zone for decades in this area. In this paper, we illustrated the application of Q compensation in Bohai Bay for the first time. With careful parameterization of serial preprocessing such as multiple attenuation, depth velocity building and Q field tomography. Final results show that vague zone caused by gas cloud has been reduced obviously. We demonstrated that Q tomography is an effective solution for gas cloud problem in Bohai Bay region.
