Abstract
Frontier areas may have limited or sparsely distributed non-seismic data sources available with which to provide some geological constraints for velocity model building.
Our approach uses limited well data available to develop a velocity-stratigraphy relationship, and then combine this with the interpretation of key horizons from the time migrated seismic datasets to produce initial, constrained velocity models for use in the depth imaging, velocity model building process.
This is a collaborative approach between geoscientists and geophysicists, and has yielded some significant imaging improvements compared to the use of unconstrained velocity models, and found to still be of benefit in areas with severe restrictions to available well data.
