Abstract
Seismic sensor sensitivity refers to the ability of transferring seismic wave to electric signal. Traditionally, this specification is paid so much attention that the relationship between it and the seismic survey system is ignored. Actually, we can define a similar sensitivity parameter for a data acquisition system, called system sensitivity. It refers to the ability of transferring seismic wave to data faced by the digital system. In this paper, we explain the double meaning of sensor sensitivity from the point of physical quantity and system function.
We know that seismic acquisition system record dimensionless data. From the point of transferring, compared with hydrophone system, can we obtain a system function to describe the transferring procedure and relationship between acoustic pressure and pure data? If it does exist, obviously, it can be regarded as sensitivity for the whole system. For a long time, people can realize the importance of sensor sensitivity and analyze problems about data acquisition and processing. But they don’t realize that it doesn’t equal to the system’s sensitivity. Simply improving sensor sensitivity cannot always improve the whole system performance of precision or resolution. In this paper, we introduce the definition of system sensitivity according to sensor sensitivity, and give out the computing algorithm. Base upon this quantitative definition, we can analyze or improve system performance preciously.
