Abstract
Compensating for the effect of the receiver ghost in marine data has traditionally been addressed by either making complementary measurements, such as over-under streamers or paired hydrophone and particle velocity sensors, or by applying a frequency-domain ghost model. Recently, an alternative time-domain method was proposed that utilizes the causality of the ghost generation process to model and subtract the ghost from the data. This approach offers the possibility of including compensation for known rough sea surfaces or varying water velocities. In this abstract, we outline the algorithm and show successful applications to synthetic and field data. In addition, we discuss the possibilities of extending the method to permit estimation of receiver depths and water velocities from the data.
