Abstract

Summary

We present a novel 3D joint inversion algorithm that inverts MT and CSEM data on different model grids to derive an anisotropic earth resistivity model. The algorithm can optionally be used to simultaneously invert for other electrical, acoustic or elastic geophysical properties of the subsurface in order to infer a multi-property earth model.

The technique is validated and applied to a synthetic case that resembles a realistic sub-basalt exploration scenario, both in terms of model structure and survey geometry, and its results are discussed to show how the complementary nature of MT and CSEM measurements can be successfully exploited.
