This paper revisits a North Sea OBC dataset that had Full Waveform Inversion (FWI) first applied to it three years ago. The aim is to use the lessons learnt in that period to improve the P-wave velocity FWI and subsequent Reverse Time Migration (RTM) image. The goal is ambitious: to generate a FWI product to the same maximum frequency as the RTM, namely 40 Hz. The progress to date is reported and the current FWI results to 22 Hz (at time of submission) are shown. Through the combination of increased practical experience, knowing how to get the best out of the input data, and also an updated FWI algorithm, the results in both the FWI velocity model and RTM image have been significantly improved. Finally, the discoveries from this study in terms of both the benefits and drawbacks of high frequency FWI are discussed.
