Abstract

The Okavango Delta is a huge wetland ecosystem in northwestern Botswana, Southern Africa. Water from the moist tropical highlands of southern Angola flows down the Okavango river, spills into the Kalahari basin and forms an alluvial fan of the size of approximately 30 000 km2. Some 6000 km2 of permanent swamps form the core of the Delta and towards the fringes, the environment is gradually becoming drier. In this continuum h m wet to dry environments, a rich variety of flora and fauna has developed.
