The ground penetrating radar (GPR) is a geophysical tool, which has growing applications in soil physics for the determination of soil water content in the unsaturated zone. One of the main objectives of the Research-Group INTERURBAN established by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Science Council, DFG) is the detection of shallow small scale (centimetre to decimetre range) dry and wet regions respectively in top soil.
