Abstract
Aim of our study is focused to improve velocity models, defined by propagation of P or S waves, performing calculus of attenuation coefficients of seismic waves passing through it. The estimation of Modulus of attenuation of P waves (M.A.P.) can be easily perform for all that experiments where an high energy signal content at both seismic ray' limit has been collected. In all cases presented (various dam’ typology) in the proposed method an estimation of source energy is generally adopted. Equipment used (i.e. Sparker probe™) for P waves generation) is characterized by an high repeatability of generation pulses. The analysis of results using a M.A.P. elaboration process is able to furnish to the geophysics interpreter complementary information. Where transmission of elastic waves is subjected to a greater influence of dissipation factors (e.g. fractured rock), the inversion process, taking into the account energy contribution of data acquired, in many cases further useful information can furnish, in order to improve rock massif characterization detail.
