Refraction tomography is widely employed to invert seismic refraction data recorded for geotechnical and environmental investigations. However, refraction tomography is inherently non-unique: an infinite number of solutions can satisfy a given set of data. This study demonstrates that nonuniqueness in the inversion of near-surface seismic refraction data can be explicitly addressed with the generalized reciprocal method (GRM) [1].
