f Seismic Map Development for and Design of Foundations by the Abu Dhabi Building Code

The decision by the United Arab Emirates to adopt the 2009 International Building Code (IBC) as the basis of the 2011 Abu Dhabi Building Code (ADBC) necessitated the development of seismic maps for Abu Dhabi. The Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA) of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi contracted with S. K. Ghosh Associates Inc. (SKGA) through the International Code Council (ICC) for the development of seismic ground motions for the United Arab Emirates (UAE), not just the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. These maps, developed by Dr. E. V. Leyendecker, Principal Seismological Consultant at SKGA and Scientist Emeritus at the U.S. Geological Survey, and Dr. C. B. Crouse, Principal Engineer/Vice President, URS Corporation, are included in the current version of the ADBC. The data and method used to develop these maps will be described in the first part of the presentation.
