Abstract

Unconventional shale gas reservoirs are known for its low porosity, low matrix permeability, the lack of an obvious seal or trap, large regional extend and in most areas, are believed to be highly heterogeneous in nature. As a result, it is common practice to evaluate reservoir characteristics and determine horizontal shale gas targets from a vertical pilot well. Horizontal production wells are then drilled and symmetrically frac stimulated to improve permeability around the borehole and maximize reservoir exposure.
