Abstract

Development of hundreds of new sinkholes in the Dead Sea shores causes necessity of their investigation by various geophysical methods. Detailed magnetic investigations were performed in the area with rugged relief located close to the eastern Dead Sea coast (Jordan) with the aim to delineate subsurface inhomogeneties and predict new sinkholes appearing. Both the total magnetic field map and map of the vertical magnetic gradient were compiled. Preliminary magnetic data analysis permitted to carry out initial mapping the studied area. For further analysis of magnetic data will be applied interpretation methodology specially developed for conditions of oblique magnetization, rugged terrain relief and unknown level of the normal magnetic field.
