Abstract
A recent study estimated1 that at least a quarter of the value generated in an oil company in a typical year can be directly attributed to subsurface data. So an initiative to improve data management is bound to be of interest. When that standardisation effort is achieving widespread acceptance in other industries it becomes even more important to understand how it relates to the way exploration and production (E&P) companies manage their data.
