Abstract
Different mechanical behavior of the sedimentary cover has been responsible for strauctural style variation of folded structures in the central Fars area, southern Zagros folded belt. Beyond the Gavbandi basement high, the shortening during the Neogene Zagros orogeny has been accommodated by Neo-Protrozoic Hormuz salt as a basal viscous detachment due to its considerable thickness forming box form detachment folds. However over the Gavbandi High where the Hormuz salt is absent or has been not well developed, intermediate detachment levels activated during folding. These detachment levels separate litho-stratigraphic units, which accommodate shortening in different styles of multi detachment folding.
