Abstract

In the summer of 2011 in waters of Azov Sea continuous aquatic soundings (CAS) research was performed. The main purpose of the research was to find and map natural methane tanks in the coastal area of the sea near Yur’evka village. CAS technology appeared in 2006 and the present day it is the basis for performing electric soundings on water areas in Russia. Typically CAS is applied on lakes and rivers where average electrical resistance is rarely decreases below 50 Ohm.m, but during this marine survey it was about 0.7 Ohm.m, so for the research group it became the first experience of managing with such a kind acquired data. The article assess the possibility of CAS application for marine surveys, discovers the technology and methodology of CAS and also contains results of the research.
