Abstract
Blocking well logs is an initial and mandatory step for many processes. It is an upscaling procedure and has no unique solution. In order to find a set of "optimal blocking" for geophysical applications we propose to use a criterion based on seismic difference between synthetic seismogram computed on the fine scale logs and synthetic seismogram computed on the blocked logs. The optimisation process is performed with a genetic algorithm because genetic algorithms have the ability to solve non linear problem and to provide a set of solutions which gives an idea of the uncertainty in the model space. Thanks to the limited number of parameters, blocked well logs can be used lately in many applications such as Massive Modelling.
