Abstract

AVO analysis and elastic inversion are techniques extensively used today to differentiate between various lithofacies and fluid fills in both clastic and carbonate rocks. In this study we have used synthetic seismic data to understand behaviour of AVO parameters and elastic inversion data in the presence of thinning layers and varying net-to-gross of reservoir. We also demonstrate how this may create pitfalls where prospective reservoirs are not recognized, illustrated with a real seismic data example.
