Abstract

This paper presents the concept of discrete local basis functions and its application to seismic data. This method is introduced by the application of orthogonal projections, the structure and theory of the matrix operators and their relationship to Savitzky-Golay filtering. As the elimination of ground is still a non-trivial task -especially for highly undersampled data - this new technique demonstrates ringing free, wavelength selective filtering as a trace-by-trace algorithm. As an alternative to frequency-wavenumber filter, it allows a quality improvement for quantitative seismic interpretation.
