Locating the substructure discontinuity features is one of the most challenging tasks for seismic interpretation. Comparing with the conventional methods based either on semblance or eigenstructure, local structure entropy (LSE) avoids the computation of large covariance matrices and their dominant eigenvalues. By defining a small correlation matrix, the cross correlation of four quadrants of the analysis cube is estimated. The analysis cube moves throughout the whole 3D seismic volume and the local structure entropy cube is obtained under the estimation principal. The application on the 3D seismic volume verify its validity and efficiency.
