Abstract

A new method to estimate the macro-velocity model, based on combining finite frequency kernels and waveform fitting techniques, is proposed for tilted transversely isotropic media. The method alternates reverse time migrations with optimizations of a new misfit function, based on the travel time lags estimated by cross-correlation. The synthetic seismograms are obtained by demigrating the migration stack with the current velocity model. Pseudo-acoustic and acoustic wave equations were implemented for modeling, migration and velocity estimation. A basic example is shown to illustrate the method.
