Abstract

New advanced tomographic tools provide a step forward in terms of quality of time and depth velocity model building. We present here a 3D case study where a structurally conformable velocity model is progressively revealed from time to depth non-linear slope tomography and finally high definition tomography. The field being crossed by a 2D variable-depth streamer acquisition, we compare the 3D high definition tomographic velocity model with the one obtained by broadband stratigraphic inversion from the 2D line. We observed that main velocity structures are in agreement between the two approaches demonstrating that high definition tomography can produce velocity models with a level of detail that promotes velocity attributes as an aid to geological interpretation.
