Abstract
Copsa Mica, Romania, is best known for its status (in the 1990s) as one of the most polluted cities in Europe. Studies show that magnetic susceptibility can successfully describe the pollution distribution in industrial areas. This paper approaches the applicability of field magnetic susceptibility investigations in realizing a fast screening of heavy-metal distribution, in order to optimize the quality and to reduce at a minimum the costs of geochemical investigations. The obtained results revealed a high applicability of this method for environmental problems, being an effective way of reducing the costs for geochemical studies.
