The Grane oil field is located in the Norwegian North Sea, about 200 km NW of Stavanger, Norway and contains heavy (19°API), high viscosity, biodegraded and under saturated oil with no initial gas cap. The expected oil in place volumes amounts to about 221 Mill.Sm³ and the expected ultimate recovery are 120 Mill.Sm³. The field has been successfully produced since the start-up in September 2003, and the present production is approximately 166,000 barrels of oil per day. 4D Monitoring program was initiated in 2005 in order to increase recovery by reducing uncertainties associated with fluid distribution along with other exclusive secondary objectives. Accordingly, the field has been under monitoring till date with acquisition of monitor seismic data every second year. The 4D Analyses performed so far on these datasets have been successfully used in the structural mapping and verification of the top reservoir, improved knowledge of communication and distribution of injectites in the Upper Lista Shale Formation, improved well path and risk reduction in drilling, improved understanding of fluid movements and gas break through history along with making a significant contribution to the update of the static and dynamic modelling process using patented technologies generated in Statoil.
