Abstract

This presentation presents the preliminary results of a multidisciplinary study that focuses on the depositional evolution and the seismic stratigraphy of the Lower Acacus Formation in Tunisia. Core data and gamma ray logs have been used to interpret the depositional setting, cycles, candidate sequence boundaries and flooding surfaces. The deltaic sediments mirror transgressive and regressive events within a large-scale progradational mixed process deltaic system that is interpreted to be composed mainly of wave-dominated and tidal-dominated intervals. On a larger-scale, a seismic stratigraphic interpretation suggests the presence of several prograding clinothems. The local occurrences of chaotic complexes implies incision periods during lowstand stages attained to moderate tectonic control.
