Abstract

While world economy growth explodes the demand of petroleum, horizontal well technique is being applied more and more worldwide in the oil and gas industry. If the existing horizontal well data can be combined with seismic inversion on reservoir characterization, it would be an innovative approach. Generally, there is no full series logging with horizontal wells. The well-seismic tie is always a big challenge in inversion application. In one recent study, after acoustic reconstruction from only available Gama Ray and Resistivity data, inclination angle stack synthetic seismogram and 3 dimension structural framework modeling techniques guaranteed that the horizontal well data could be integrated into the seismic inversion process, and high resolution acoustic impedance spike sparse inversion and stochastic inversion combined horizontal well data into impedance dataset; furthermore, lithology simulation improved the accuracy of sand reservoir and especially shale barrier identification. Delineated major target sand reservoir and shale barrier based on seismic inversion and simulation results, they could match most of existing wells in the study area; even further, there are 25 new horizontal wells drilled later after the study, they were used to verify the results, the success rate is higher than 85 percent.
