Abstract

Accurate determination of reservoir water and oil saturation is of importance in reserves estimation and economics of reservoirs. To calculate the value of water saturation, applying Archie’s equation is common. Although accurate determination of cementation factor (m), tortusity factor (a) and saturation component is the Achilles heel of this equation. From the first day of advent of this equation, many different procedures have been proposed to calculate these unknown factors. However most of these procedures suffer from lack of accuracy as the unknowns are not solved simultaneously. In this paper, by applying two new methods, a modified Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Homogeneous Parameter Distribution (LEBEDE) the above mentioned unknown parameters of the Archie’s equation were calculated simultaneously with 7.61% and 7.7% error. Furthermore a comparison is made between previously accepted methods which have solved the unknowns simultaneously and our proposed procedures. Consequently, according to this study it is shown that the accuracy of the novel methods proposed are much more than previous methods.
