Abstract

Interpretation of geophysical data, gravity and magnetic, is performed for the area of the northern part of Bosnia. Gravity and magnetics surveys were conducted to study the geological structures and dimension of subsurface lithology. The objective of the geophysical survey was to delineate the boundaries of the geothermal reservoir and geological structures that control flow of geothermal fluids. The presented results show that the area of northern Bosnia could be very perspective for further research of geothermal energy. Future research should focus primarily on areas that are on the interpretation map located in the areas of negative gravity anomalies. In these areas, it is possible to expect the accumulation of geothermal fluids. The presence of magnetic anomalies indicates the existences of igneous rocks that are also an important factor of the geothermal system. The position of these igneous bodies coincides with the provision of faults. The fracture zones correlate with NW-SE trending structures from gravity and magnetic surveys and the surface geothermal manifestations in the area. This fact supports the existence of a geothermal system in the exploratory area. However, for more accurate results further hydrothermal and geophysical surveys are needed.
