Abstract

The main challenge for seismic data acquisition today is to design a survey which accurately images the subsurface in line and cross line, despite the presence of a variety of noise contaminants. This challenge must encapsulate the raising of data quality and the provision of adequate seismic areal coverage, whilst keeping unit acquisition costs low and ensuring no harm to people or the environment. Recent developments in acquisition technologies, like simultaneous recording (Bouska, 2008), and dramatically increased channel counts, help to facilitate high productivity and thus allow the acquisition of properly sampled data in both source and receiver domains, over large areas with fast turn-around.
