Abstract

Understanding the complexity of the fault system is critical for well path planning and production analysis. Currently there are few well known seismic attributes that are routinely used by geoscientists to reveal and display fault patterns in a formation. These attributes are based on the algorithms that are inferring geometrical properties from spatial variations in seismic Amplitude data. Although proved to be helpful for the fault identification, these attributes frequently exhibit low vertical resolution and presence of noise overall. In this paper we describe how new fault attributes (named I3D) can help to clean up the geometry-based seismic attributes and improve the fault identification.
