Abstract

Summary

This study is a full review of the geology and exploration potential of the Valencia Trough integrating the interpretation of more than 13,500 km of vintage seismic lines, the results of the main wells drilled in the area and the review of detailed studies on outcrops on the periphery of the basin.

The interpretation allowed to better understand the geological complexities of the area, to identify and evaluate the potentiality of this basin in the Tertiary sequences and in the Paleozoic/Mesozoic carbonates. The calibrations of the seismic interpretation with well data was carried out after a critical geological review of the data available for the key selected wells taking into consideration also regional distribution and trends of the main depositional units

The fault and fracture network interpreted was combined and calibrated the analysis of the structural lineaments from satellite images in the areas surrounding the offshore basin and integrated the structural setting of the area.

The integration of distribution of the different petroleum plays with the depth maps of the key horizons and with the understanding of the geological and depositional evolution of the basin and of the different depositional units allowed to identify areas with remaining exploration potentials.
