Abstract
For elastic full waveform inversion (EFWI), additional strategies are required to alleviate the trade-off effects between parameters during the inversion. The reliably separated P and S wave data subsets provided by wave mode decomposition are helpful for the multiparameter inversion. The conjugate-gradient method based on mode decomposition can mitigate parameter trade-offs similarly to Gaussian-Newton method. We compare the two methods and try to find the connection between them by analyzing the contribution of decomposed adjoint P or S wavefields to the inversion. Finally, synthetic example on the constant-density Marmousi-II model proves the validity of mode decomposition based conjugate gradient method for mitigating parameter trade-offs.
