Abstract

Summary

Several relatively small gas fields on the Thrace basin, Turkey, have been developed and almost depleted in the last decade. Currently detailed reservoir geophysics studies are carried out to map the remaining sweet spots and optimise new drilling locations. The objective of this study is to help with the optimisation of a step-out well position at a mature gas field. AVO attributes and absolute rock properties from prestack inversion are used after calibrations at the existing production wells to reduce the risk of drilling a dry well. The results indicated possible commercial gas targets at a shallow sand pocket not penetrated by the production wells and a deeper zone also a potential at the drilled nearby production wells.
