Abstract

A number of pore pressure estimation techniques have been applied to evaluate the pore pressure for an intra-Chalk prospect in the Danish North Sea. Reasonable estimates could be obtained for Top Chalk pressures with offset well analysis, simple modeling and standard geophysical techniques. Combining seismic inversion derived porosity estimates with a compaction model looks promising as a technique to provide a lower bound for the pore pressure in reservoirs inside the Chalk. The technique has been applied but was not successful in the case reported in this study, for reasons not yet understood. Further research, both in terms of processing techniques and in terms of rock mechanical understanding, is needed to make the method operational.
