Abstract
The paper presents an approach to improve economic viability of tight oil fields development by horizontal wells with multistage hydraulic fracturing. The need to extend horizontal sections is justified and pilot program is proposed to increase horizontal section length from 1000 m up to 1600 – 2000 meters. Technical limitations were described which affected implementation of the long wells solution. The main limitation was exceeding of the critical torque threshold. The set of activities to overcome these limitations was suggested, such as smoothing of drilling trajectory in a well upper section, drilling fluid modifications, BHA modifications and application of the additional equipment.
As a result, a number of wells with horizontal section length of 1600m was successfully drilled in the field, which demonstrate their efficiency during the first months of production based on oil production data monitoring. Following the results of pilot program, the field development plan was modified and recommended to full-field implementation.
