Abstract
The practical basis of horizontal well drilling in Russia was laid as far back as in the 1930s. However despite the experience earned in horizontal well drilling the technologies of oil fields development by means of vertical and directional well were preferred. Only few hundreds of horizontal oil wells were drilled in the world (most of them in Russia) before 1980, then after 1988 the number of horizontal wells amounted to 2000 pcs with only about 180 wells in Russia. Over the last years the number of horizontal wells keeps increasing together with emerging of new challenges connected to the studies of these wells. The difficulties are preconditioned by the fact that specific yields of the horizontal wells are significantly lower and the direction as well as stratification of both single and multiphase flow are considerably more complex than these in vertical wells.
The well flow tests by means of rapid method while drilling in open borehole become more actual at the current stage that demands modernization and modification of production logging results interpretation methods. The earned experience of modular formation tester use in horizontal wells at the stage of research and exploration of oil and gas fields assures prompt efficiency, reliability of the information on the presence of productive reservoirs that predetermines the importance of these studies.
