Abstract
Multimeasurement towed streamer data are subject to several different sources of noise that can limit the recoverable signal content. Most existing noise attenuation techniques rely on processing each measurement separately. We propose a simple joint spectral subtraction approach to attenuate the noise in the crossline and vertical pressure gradient data. The approach utilizes the relation between the pressure and its spatial gradients to estimate a maximum threshold that can be applied to the power spectrum of any component of the full particle motion vector measurements limiting the noise leakage while maximizing the protection of the signal. The original phase of the measurements is preserved in the estimated signal, and therefore this method can be considered as a zero phase nonlinear filter with a magnitude between 0 and 1.
