Integration of Well and Seismic Data in a Tight Ordovician Gas Sand

Abstract
Seismic is one of the main sources of information to infer reservoir properties between well positions. However, due to limitations in data quality and resolution, it is generally case-dependent to know whether data may be useful or not for reservoir characterization, and if so, if it brings quantitative, or simply qualitative information. In this paper, we answer this question on a particularly challenging case-study: the characterization of the tight Sarah Formation located NW Saudi Arabia. Due to high sediment velocity, seismic resolution in this formation is extremely low. The methodology presented is based on a systematic exploration of the possible variations of the geological scenarios observed at well positions by simulating pseudo-wells. This pseudo-well database is used first to test the relevance of seismic information to predict reservoir parameters. This phase shows that seismic amplitudes are mainly sensitive to reservoir thickness variations. In a second phase, we use the pseudo-well in a geostatistical simulation workflow to predict maps of reservoir thickness and its associated uncertainties.
