Abstract
In this paper, we propose a wave separation method for three-component 3D seismic survey data. Many researchers have worked on separation methods, however, the methods for separation of P, SV and SH waves for 3D seismic data are still developing. Our method is based on the relationship between displacement potentials and displacement (i.e., the Helmholtz decomposition) and elastic wavefields could be decomposed to P, SV and SH waves. To investigate the effectiveness of our method, numerical simulations with homogeneous isotropic and anisotropic models are conducted. We produce synthetic data sets using FDM forward modeling. Subsequently, displacement potentials at each receiver position are calculated by using recorded data. Our numerical results show that S-wave potentials have successfully separated the model is isotropic. Although P-wave potential separation needs further investigation, there is a possibility that our method could extract three different elastic wave modes from recorded data.
