Abstract

Summary

A new horizon interpretation system is proposed that avoids the issues of lateral continuity in both 2D and 3D auto tracking while optionally maintaining natural fault boundaries, and which allows interpreters to explore alternate routes while building up their conceptual understanding of the data.

The proposed system consists of a fully integrated 2D/3D interpretation environment that allows users to select a phase event on a trace (in either a 2D window or in 3D) and see both a tracked route through the data and alternate routes that deviate at key decision points. The system is designed to work effectively with the different interpretation practices such as 2D inline / crossline interpretation followed by grid filling or full 3D autotracking with 2D inline / crossline QC.
