Abstract

Summary

This paper discusses the value of 4-D seismic monitoring at the Bell Creek oil field CO2 enhanced oil recovery project. The 4-D seismic data interpretation illuminated a shale-filled channelized permeability barrier and delineated a permeable lithologic pathway transecting the permeability barrier. The 4-D results not only provided better understanding of fluid and pressure communication within the field but have also offered an improved geological interpretation of the baseline 3-D seismic data. These improvements have resulted in new insights into the reservoir heterogeneity, enhancements in the static and dynamic models and, ultimately, more accurate reservoir performance forecasts.
