Abstract

Summary

As part of a wider 4D feasibility study for a producing field offshore Abu Dhabi, we have developed a new workflow for 4D S/N estimation. Our noise modeling approach imposes modelled source/receiver positioning errors on real 3D gathers. The signal injection step rescales the data to simulate production effects. We will illustrate how this workflow can be used along with traditional techniques to understand the 4D noise-floor. Furthermore, since this technique is integrated within the processing sequence, it allows us to assess the impact the flow has on 4D amplitude fidelity. In the Abu Dhabi example, we measure a 2% [?]AI/AI detection threshold and up to a 15% attenuation of 4D signal in processing.
