Abstract
Fractures have an influence on the porosity and permeability of fractured reservoirs. The common practice is to guide the fracture modeling through seismic attributes. Unfortunately in many cases, the correlation between the fracture density and seismic attributes lacks. This study analyzes the relation between the measured fractures and the seismic data. The area lies in the South Arne field located in the Danish North Sea. The data consists of a 3D seismic cube, several horizontal wells, logs, well tops and fracture points data. At first the mean fracture azimuth and azimuth distribution spread is estimated for each well using polar coordinates. Then the mean fracture azimuth is compared with the structural map of the reservoir top and the fault pattern derived from seismic multi-trace attributes. In turns out that the fractures of the wells at the crest of the structure are striking sub-parallel to the faults. The mean fracture strike of the wells at the reservoir flanks follow the hinge direction of the structure. Fracture dispersion seems to be largest at the crest of structure. A correlation between the acoustic impedance and Young modulus logs with the fracture density can be confirmed only for a few wells.
