Abstract
Nowadays, sensors are everywhere in the Oil and Gas industry, which leads to creation of a “Big Data”. This data in many cases should be aggregated and coordinated in a real-time fashion, sometimes in harsh environments. To address this issue, we have defined a unified wireless sensing framework that comprises three modules: cheap low-power long-range wireless sensors with inherent compatibility with the Internet of Things (IoT), advanced scalable wireless networking protocols, and data storage/analytics running on clouds for analysis and decision making. As a showcase, we present our seismic field test results with low-power wide-area networks (LPWANs) in the Netherlands.
