Abstract

Summary

Low-frequency seismic sounding (LFS) has proven itself on land in many oil and gas provinces of the Russian Federation and is successfully used in prospecting and exploration of hydrocarbon fields.

In principle, the use of the LFS on the shelf and in the sea-land transit zone is possible when field records of low-frequency microseismic background obtained from the bottom surface have good quality. However, in order to fully confirm the working capacity of the technology for shelf conditions, there was required to conduct real test studies involving specialized bottom and seismological equipment.

Test works of the LFS, in agreement with the branch of RN-Shelf-Arktika LLC, were carried out by a “wide” profile on land and shelf of one of the licensed areas on Sea of Okhotsk. The purpose of the surveys was to test the LFS technology in marine conditions, as well as to identify interpretation features of oil and gas potential zones, in analogy with the standard LFS surveys from daylight surface, and assess the oil and gas potential of the territory on the profile of observations.

The result of the test work was a map of hydrocarbon potential for production layer of the Daginsky Formation within the “broad” profile of the LFS, which confirms the possibility of effective application of the LFS technology on the shelf of the seas.
