Abstract

Summary

The studies conducted so far have revealed that the eastern part of the Balkan Peninsula and the territory of modern Bulgaria in particular cover the area of the earliest mining and metal production in Europe. The presented geophysical data demonstrates part of the results obtained during the first stage of the project DFNI K02/06 12.12.2014 funded by the National Science Fund of Bulgaria. The project focuses on two of the most promising mining regions in terms of geology, culture and history, aiming at finding, determining and investigating traces of ancient mining and extraction of metals.

The investigations are directed towards studying the ancient mining and metallurgical activities in Burgas (mainly the western part) and Yambol mining regions and intends to localize, describe and do research of surface and underground ancient mining sites.

The current paper presents part of the results obtained by the geophysical surveys in two different archaeological sites located in the area of Copper Ridge part of Burgas mining region.
